After a time of bounding the boy at last confides in him that he 'sees dead people', 'all the time'. And it slowly develops that this might be the most probable explanation of the situation. Through the coaching of the psychiatrist the boy comes to understand that these ghosts are trying to get him to help them, rather than just haunt him. He does so and untangles some truly gruesome affairs. The psychiatrist them comes to realize that he is actually dead and that he is just another one of the boy's ghosts who has a past-life that needs untangling as well.
