No he isn't in the movie. His name is Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett-Beverly Hillbilles/Barnaby Jones- Barnaby Jones TV show characters) He couldn't play the part because he was allergic to the silver paint they used to make Tin Man look like Tin.
The actor Jack Hailey. Buddy Ebsen of (Beverly Hillbillies) fame was considered for the part but developed an allergy to aluminum dust used as part of the costume. By the way he is not( Tin Man, two words by the way) once referred to as a ROBOT in either the book or the movie. the word Robot was not in common usage until l922 when a science-fiction playwright, Carel Capek, coined it, it meant worker or slave-laborer by extension. None of the ( Friendly Monster) characters in Wizard Of Oz has a Christian or other prename like, say Jack Smith. all are identifyed by phrases, such as Tin Woodsman or Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow etc. if done today they would have names and identities like the characters, for example in Toy Story- Woody the cowboy, for example. I never did like Oz anyhow.
