The anglo-boer war, basically a war for independence from Britain.

South African troops also served as an Ally in the 1st (1914-1918) and 2nd (1939-1945) World Wars.

During the 1970's and 1980's South Africa also conducted "war" in South West Africa/ Namibia and in Angola - predominantly against communist backed SWAPO and ANC training camps located in these two neighbouring countries (although South Africa for all intense and purpose occupied SWA/ Namibia for this period).
