Jellal is a wizard like the other characters of fairy tail, however, when he was young he was possesed and becomes evil. (spoilers from here on) he was though to have been dead after the tower of heaven arc, however, after being healed by Wendy, he loses his memory. He soon joins the guild Crime Sorcière. There is also 'Mystogan' aka Edo-Jellal. Another Jellal from an alternate dimention. (Edolas Arc)
What is the difference between Jellal and Siegrain from Fairy Tail?
Siegrain and Jellal are the same person. Siegrain is merely the thought projection of Jellal which he used to infiltrate the magic council, who later rejoined with his other half after the Etherion was fired on the R-system/Tower of Heaven. Earlier when Erza encountered Siegrain, he made up the story that they were twin brothers to explain his identical appearance to Jellal.
