Technically, South America is made of countries, not states. And they go like this:
Venezuela- Caracas
Guyana (formerly British Guyana)- Georgetown
Suriname (formerly Dutch Guyana)- Paramaribo
Brazil- Brasilia
Paraguay- Asuncion
Uraguay- Montevideo
Argentina- Buenos Aires
Chile- Santiago
Bolivia- 2 capitals- La Paz and Sucre (Sucre is legal capital but La Paz's growth made the government move over there, making it a second capital)
Peru- Lima
Ecuador- Quito
Colombia- Bogota
There are also three territories of South America. The first one is French Guyana, located near Suriname and Brazil, and it's owned by France. French Guyana's capital is Cayenne. The second one is the Falkland Islands, owned by the United Kingdom (U.K)/Great Britain/England. Their capital is called Stanley. The last territory of South America is the Galapapos Archipelago. It's located off the coast of Ecuador.
Hope this helps a lot! -Carla520
