Considering that 1,496 people went into the sea, and several were still aboard, we can estimate that 1,500+ people died on, in, or during Titanic's struggle to stay afloat. Some of the well known people who perished on Titanic were; Thomas Andrews- designer of the Titanic; he was last seen stopping the time on a clock, estimating the ship's death. Edward James Smith- Captain of the Titanic; he was last seen on the bridge. He had made plans to retire after seeing Titanic safely across. Ida and Isidor Straus- the wealthy couple aboard Titanic. Ida made the decision to stay with her husband when the "women and children only" order was given, even though it meant certain death. This was a final testimony of her love and loyalty to her husband. John Jacob Astor- wealthiest man aboard Titanic. He was last seen by his eighteen year old wife, after he helped her aboard a life boat. He died on the ship as well. The Musicians- the first class band on Titanic that played until the final moments of Titanic's death. For the life of me, I can't think of their names at the moment. The last song they played was "Nearer, My God, To Thee".
