I've never seen the movie, but I just finished reading the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which revealed that at least part, if not all of the movie, was filmed in Savannah, Georgia. Part of filming took place outside and even within Mercer House.

Sounds like "Never on Sunday" from the movie of the same name (1960) starring Melina Mercouri, filmed in Greece. Internet Movie Database uses its original Greek title but you can find it anyway.
I have a memory from the 1980s that the movie was going to be made starring Powers Boothe. It was started during either the Writers or Actors strike and never was made. I have searched the internet for years for info to no avail.Bill
