NBOX is a standard definition digital media player that supports playback of a wide variety of video files up to 720x576 in resolution. It does have a 720p component video output, so it is capable of performing the necessary up-scaling. The results are about what you can expect from a very good DVD player.

The NBOX is what's known in the industry as a "reference design" product in that it uses the basic hardware and firmware design produced by the chip set manufacturer. It is based on the popular Amlogic AML8613 chip set, and uses the standard firmware (except for the additional NBOX logo). Being a reference design product, it works well and offers the basic features, but it lacks some of the more advanced features such as HDMI output or internal HDD drive bay that can be found on other players.

The NBOX is suitable as an inexpensive general purpose media player that can replace low end DVD players, provide a similar level of visual quality, while taking up much less space. It's cheap enough that you can have multiple units throughout the house.
