The best Pokemon to start Pokemon Pearl?

Actually, I think all are great.

Turtwig will become part Ground type when it evolves, thus making it easier to defeat Poison type opponents with Earthquake. As you know, Poison type opponents usually have Poison Gas or Toxic to make your Pokemon GO into the poison state, so Turtwig will be perfect for that. And even though it cannot beat Ghost type Pokemons with its Grass and Ground type (because of Levitate), it can also learn Bite, a Dark type move when it is a Grotle, considering whether you let it evolve or not.

Chimchar will be great for speed, and it can take down its one of its original weakness, Rock type, when it evolves. As you know Rock type is strong against Fire type, so that is taken care of. But then you know how you meet a lot of trainers with Starly or Staravia, that, your Monferno or Infernape is at a disadvantage because Flying type is good against Fighting type. And also considering that one of the Elite Four uses Psychic type Pokemon.

Piplup is great for, well, defending when it evolves into Empoleon. It will be immune to Poison type attacks because it is part Steel type, making it great for fighting Poison type Pokemon since it won't go into the poison state. And it will learn Drill Peck, making it easier to defeat Roselia or Roserade, and it won't get poisoned (you know the reason) by their Poison Point ability, which is of course great.

Pick your choice, they're all great at something, but Poison type Pokemon are really an annoyance, Golbat is an example, since it learns a lot of other confusing moves like Supersonic and Confuse Ray. So in this case, Piplup or Turtwig will be good. And also, Turtwig is slower than Piplup, but has high attack and defense. Chimchar has high speed and attack, but mostly lower defense. Piplup is slow, but its attack and defense is balanced, I think?

in pearl i would say chimchar is the best starter because the only other fire Pokemon u can get is poyta and other than that i think the best starter is the one u like best

yeah i agree infernape owns both torterra and empoleon

i would say piplup because it helps at least half the gyms and it doesnt have a hard time against the elite four when its an empoleon

Piplup is the best starter. Its final evolution form - Empoleon is strong. Its extra steel type decreases the super effective damage from lightning type to water type. And it can learn some good moves too. Like Drill Peck, Hydro Pump, Avalanche, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and many more. What's more if you want to teach him HM moves, well he can learn all of them except HM02 Fly.

yes piplup is good choice but with empoleon and its steel type it has also its bad against both torterra and infernape. anyway i think turtig is the best its final evalution torterra kicks ass in the Pokemon league also strong against most gyms.

IT DOESNT MATTER WHICH ONE YOU CHOOSE. IN THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME LEVEL UP TO 15 OR WHATEVER BEFORE MOVING ON. YOU CAN REST AT YOUR HOUSE, HEALING YOUR POKEMON, THEN WHEN YOU MOVE ON IN THE GAME YOU ARE WAY STRONGER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE.

i chose turtwig cuz hes cute in the beginning then hes cool at the last form of evolution. :D

well, to tell the truth... I beat the entire game with just my empoleon (I started with piplup). so, that's a great choice. Empoleon only has 2 weaknesses: Electric and Fighting. Because it's a water/steel type. That made the game like.... 5 times easier for me.

I think Piplup is the best because it is easy to vs the first 3 gyms. on the first gym all you need is bubble or a water type attack! on the second gym, all you need is peck or a flying type attack, and the 3rd gym, all you need is the same as the 2nd gym! for the third gym, i suggest you catch a starly and evolve it into a staravia or staraptor!

In pearl i would say the best Pokemon to use is Torterra despite having a empoleon myself.

Piplup:

- great defence

- when stats are improved becomes powerfull Pokemon

- great moves

- sucks in the beginning of the game

Torterra: (recommended)

-3rd evolve is ultimate starter Pokemon of all Pokemon

-great attack

- really hard to find a excellent grass Pokemon like this in pearl

My god!!! I don't think it really matters how the Pokemon you chose looks like, because they will all look ugly at their final evolution, every Pokemon in the game is like that, I think except Staraptor, which looks cool but not ugly.

Actually, there really is no best starter, and I really hate how everyone chooses Turtwig or Chimchar over Piplup. And by that, you will understand that I personally would choose Piplup.

I'll start explaining the reason I like Piplup.

First off, Piplup is only weak to two attacks, those are Grass type and Electric type. At its final evolution form, Empoleon, is Water/Steel type, thus its weakness to Grass will be gone, but adding another weakness, Fighting type. And because of its extra Steel type, its damage from Electric type moves will be decreased.

Secondly, it can defeat a lot of types because it can learn different types of moves.

Water type is strong against - Rock, Ground, and Fire type.

Steel type is strong against - Rock type. Is immune to - Poison type.

Flying type...................(by leveling up) is strong against - Grass, Bug and Fighting type.

Ice type.......................(by TM) is strong against - Grass and Dragon type.

Fighting type...............(by TM) is strong against - Dark, Ice, Steel, Rock and Normal type.

Dark type.....................(by TM) is strong against - Psychic and Ghost type.

Ghost type...................(by TM) is strong against - Ghost and Psychic type. Is immune to - Normal and Fighting type.

Rock type.....................(by TM) is strong against - Flying, Bug and Fire type.

Grass type....................(by TM) is strong against - Water, Rock and Ground type.

Thirdly, it can learn all the HMs except Fly of course, even though it has wings. So if you want to teach it a HM move, well, you're welcome to.

Fourthly, it has great stats. It may have lower speed than Chimchar, but its Attack and Defense stats are balanced, making it have a higher chance of winning and lower chance of losing.

My personally own choice is Piplup. I like him because even though he is weak to lightning, its last evolution form - Empoleon has an extra steel type, thus decreasing some of the super effective damage from lightning type attacks. And he can learn tons of great moves, like Hydro Pump, Drill Peck, Blizzard, Brine (which I personally like) and many more.
