I believe David Niven was knighted in the 1970s, but am not positive. He wrote two books, "The Moon is a Balloon" and "Bring on the Empty Horses," that are typical of his very dry, very English wit. If you like him, you really must read his books!

An Alternate Answer:

There is absolutely no record of David Niven ever having been Knighted; being Knighted in the United Kingdom deems having received an honored title under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

He did not receive this honor for any function he performed, while serving in the British Military. As a celebrity or performance artist, he likely would have received an OBE or Order of the British Empire, which is technically NOT a knighthood but does fall under the category of an honor of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Many fans, and friends questioned why Niven was not ever Knighted. There is not any reason given for one NOT receiving such an honor. One speculative reply might be due to the many rumored affairs Niven was said to have had; which in itself, would not prevent him from receiving the honor but a steady rumor was that Niven had an affair with Princess Margaret, the late younger sister of Queen Elizabeth.
