Yes the show was canceled back in 1997. I remember reading many years ago that a few things contributed to this. Actor Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy) was the highest paid TV actor at the time, but also, ratings were going down fast, and the sex jokes were getting old and tired. It was on the air for 11 seasons . So basically, wages, ratings, and lack of original jokes is what I read caused the demise.

Even though the show had loyal fans, it was never huge in the ratings, thanks in part that Fox did not have country wide coverage, so the show was seen each week by a limited audience.

When shows fall in the ratings, the advertisers start pulling out, and there is no further funding for new episodes, and so it goes for shows like this with no change whatsoever of it ever being renewed again.
