Don't know. But I just today bought a copy of Transformers The Movie (the 80s cartoon one) and just before Spike and Bumblebee get pulled into Unicron (approximately 34:40) you can hear "It isn't even dented!" "Ah sh**, what are we going to do now?!" I've checked a few transcriptions of the movie script and they all omit it, so possibly it was censored from some versions but not all. Its the remastered widescreen 5.1 version I've got (2007 release). Haven't yet dug up my old VHS to check that so I don't know if it applies to all versions of the movie, and I never watched the cartoon on telly so can't help with the original question. The answer is no. There was no swearing in the televised versions of the show. There was only the one instants in the movie as mentioned above. The show floundered after the movie do to the bad press and bitter taste the movie left with the fans children and parents alike. The main reason behind the bad feelings was the death of Optimus Prime. Though the slew of other characters killed hurt the fandom as well. Though some argue the reason the film is still even known about is the controversy started over the death of of Prime.

A show doesn't need to get an amount of ratings for it to be cancelled, it's just the opposite. Shows get cancelled for the lack of ratings. The lower the number the quicker it'll be cancelled.
