The filles du roi were not really the king's daughters, as their name mean in French. None of them actually saw him. He was just a patron paying for them to travel and settle in the newly founded colony of New France, and gave them a dowry, consisting of a small sum of money and a trousseau. So you can assume that they had no reason to be frightened by the king.

The filles du roi were mainly orphans. They had little prospects in France. In contrast, the newly founded colony needed women to populate the new country. The king paid for the travel and a small dowry, and the fille du roi had the opportunity to start a new life and to found a family which she didn't have in the old country.

What did they wear in France in 1412?

Most "filles du roi" were orphans or of very modest origin - except for a few tens of them who destined themselves to marry officers or wealthy colonists. Their dress was then most probably modest and sober, not the kind you would see depicted on paintings.

Why were Filles Du Roi called King's Daughters?

The name filles du roi means "the king's daughters". The name "fille du roi" was there to indicate that they were under the safeguard of the king. The Filles du Roi were mostly orphans or abandoned young girls living in France in orphanage or in terrible condition. As it became clear that there was a need to get women to come to New France, to allow for population growth, they were placed under the patronage, or (symbolical) protection of the King. Acting as a protector, he gave them a dowry (not necessarily money) and paid for their trip to New France.
