There are 54 countries in Africa. As of 2013, there are 1.1 billion people living on the continent. It is the second largest continent in the world. 50% of the entire African population is younger than 20 years old. Many wild animals call Africa home: lions, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, wildebeests, and elephants (just to name a few). There may be more than 1,000 different languages that are spoken on the continent. 53 of the 54 countries have a national football (soccer) team. Four of those countries have made it to the FIFA World Cup. About 45% of the population of Africa is Christian. Only 10% still follow traditional religions, like tribal religions.
