Many European nations colonized west Africa. Most notably it was the French who made most of west Africa under them until last half of 20th century. Algeria, Chad, Niger etc were all colonized by them.

Should you mean Louis XIV ( the "Sun King"): he had a big impact on his country in that he made it the most powerful on the European continent, but he did not radically alter its cultural, social or economic orientation, which is something Peter the Great did do.
