The food chain discussed in The Lion King 1 concerns the food chain in the jungle. The antelope eat the grass, the lions eat the antelope and when the lions die, they are absorbed by the earth and new grass grows on them. This way the food chain continues.

Why don't food chains begin with the same thing?

Because like in the ocean and the fields. In the ocean the shark or whale is probably on top of the food chain. In the wild, a lion is probably on top. Have you ever seen a lion eat a whale or vice versa??? It is because their are different organisms in the different food chains- the tops don't get eaten at all- and they don't eat each other.
