Members of The Hoosier Property Tax Reform Alliance gathered today in Fort Wayne to talk about Question 1. The group's purpose is to encourage the public to vote yes on the issue. This is a proposed amendment to the Indiana Constitution that would allow property taxes to be capped. To take effect, the measure has to be passed by a majority of Indiana voters.
The proposed caps would look like this: 1% property tax cap for residential properties; a 2 % cap for agricultural land and apartment buildings, and a 3 % property tax cap on businesses.
Indiana State Senator David Long said at the event, "This is a pro taxpayer bill first. It puts government second. It makes sure property taxes stay low in Indiana. The key thing is people have to vote yes on it."
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce opposes the issue and sent the News Channel 15 following statement:
"The 1-2-3 cap structure taxes commercial and industrial property at a higher effective rate.
Sanctioning such treatment is a message to business investors - not a positive one.
We believe that a system that classifies taxpayers for the purpose of taxing them differently is inevitably detrimental to the economy in the long term."
If voters do not pass Question 1, State Senator David Long said he expects to see an immediate lawsuit filed by those who oppose the amendment, calling it unconstitutional.
The ballot of Indiana.
"No-confidence" is not on the ballot. You do have the option of spoiling your ballot, declining a ballot, or not voting. Otherwise, vote for one of the candidates. Of course, you could also go through a legal name change and adopt the new surnane of "No-confidence." Then you could obtain the necessary number of nominations and vote for yourself. (Stranger things have happened at election time.) ================================================================ Just would like to point out that spoiling your ballot is illegal and doesn't get counted. You can, however, get your ballot rejected by leaving your ballot blank or voting for multiple candidates. Rejected ballots are counted. ================================================================ 1. A review of the Canada Elections Act does not indicate that spoiling your ballot is an offence. 2. Voting for multiple candidates, or making any other mark on the ballot except the one indicating for which candidate you are voting, is commonly known as "spoiling your ballot."
You need to pass with 25/30. If you get 6 wrong you fail.

The ballot of Indiana.
No. The bicameral Indiana state legislature has never successfully passed a bill which would have put a same-sex marriage amendment to the state constitution on the ballot for Indiana voters to ratify or defeat.
Yes. Voters are free to abstain. Many voters abstain from down-ballot races because they have not heard of the candidates in those races.
In a party-column ballot or "Indiana ballot," the names of candidates are placed in separate columns according to their party affiliations with the party name at the top of each column.
