Did the Navajo tribe really eat Navajo tacos?

They do today! And with grilled mutton and roast green chile they are delicious. But, no they did not in the past. Fry bread is made from wheat flour. It is thought they began to use it during their 4 year internment in Bosque Redondo in 1864. Before that the Navajo used corn that the grew to make vaious breads and cakes and mush. They did not make anything like a Navajo taco then.

How long did the Navajo Indians long walk last?

This was a 450 mile trek that lasted about 22 days . At least 200 Navajos died of cold and starvation. 53 different groups of Navajo made the trip there. Each group walked a slightly different route. Between 8,000 and 9,000 people traveled the route with a peak population of 9,022 in Bosque Redondo by the spring of 1865. After they arrived at the Fort Sumner New Mexico, many more died. The land was not suitable to agriculture and neither were the Navajos so four years later, the government allowed the Navajo to return to their homes. Actually more than 3,500 navajos died of starvation, cold weather, no food or water, no medicines. but the trip actually took 18 days because some of the army 'privates' forced the navajos to walk 20 miles a day or in some cases more.

What happened after the long walk?

The Long Walk ended at Bosque Redondo in New Mexico. They had no shelter. The water was bad. The crops didn't grow well in this area. Their livestock had been killed. Many got sick. Some died. They were dependent on US government food supplies. The tradition of fry bread comes from this time as does the style of velveteen top with tiered skirt. The US army who guarded them stole and sold the food and supplies. It became a huge scandal. The US government wanted them to move to Oklahoma. They refused and said they would rather die than live beyond their four sacred mountains. There were some officers and government officials to whom Navajo people and culture was very appealing. They got them permission to return to their homeland. In 18, 1868 they were allowed to walk home. They cried when they saw Mt Taylor, the sacred mountain of the south, on the horizon. They were granted 3.5 million acres. Later they added to that and now have the Navajo Nation, a semi-autonomous territory covering 27,425 square miles. There are 300,000 Navajo today.

How do the Cheyenne Indians prepare their food?

Depends on what kind of food you're talking about. Fish was probably cooked over a fire or over hot stones, it was very likely that meat was cooked the same way. The corn was probably ground up into flour, mixed with water and made into dough. This dough was most likely laid on hot flat stones to bake, which made a kind of flat bread. Small animals were most likely cut up and mixed with other vegetables to make a stew.
