A manga character is, obviously, a character from a manga book. Manga books are the books that sort of look like comics, but are in black and white. Usually made in Japan. Manga books are usually read right to left, so like a backwards book.

mangas are written like this because in japan, their characters (writitng) is written from right to left. manga is originally from japan so when they publish it, its still written from right to left. and its just like asking why do we write from left to right?
The only manga that read from left to right are "manga" originally published in a language that's read from left to right (i.e., English,) and Japanese manga that are "flipped" by a publisher for publication in a language that's read from left to right. Even "modern" Japanese manga are read from right to left.

The anime doesn't follow the manga, it diverts from the manga plot quite early on in the anime. So I suggest reading the manga from the beginning.
Manga is a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels typically read from right to left. no, you read it right to left.
If you read Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, and on and on popular manga series, then you would know. You are right, though. The character does have to be original, but like most mangaka they make the character with traits they come up with from other manga characters. For example, your character is: wacky, lazy, boring, strong, quiet, super, alien, moody, happy, dark, evil, cruel, intelligent, or any others. Then you have to come up with the look for the characters and the setting for them. The storyplot is the next fun thing, because you could place your characters in the world you want them to be in(usually Tokyo, but it can be somewhere else) and what happens in it. Anywho, coming up with your own original characters and storyplot is the funnest part, so enjoy making your manga.
