Some would answer that the men go to work and have the technology and the women are sometimes housewives or more likely they go to work.

And that would be correct for many Canadians.

Some would have the women stay at home, others would have the women working but only at certain jobs, and others still would have the women working and the man at home.

Women are increasingly more likely to complete university than men as shown by the fact that the majority of graduates are women. As a result women are finding many more opportunities than in the past.

That does not mean they are willing to do the work that men traditionally have done. Men still dominate many trades, particularly those that are hazardous, unpleasant and require long hours away from home.

The role of the genders inside the home is also changing. Women are much less likely to even get married, the result of better education and job opportunities. People are more likely to be living single or staying at home longer.

In those homes with couples domestic duties still fall heavier on the women but men are much more active than in the past.

And of course there are many Canadian homes with very traditional roles, clearly laid out and no deviation is allowed. These are increasing in Canada due to an increase of some fundamentalist religions.

The result of this increase of fundamentalist religion is an increased discrimination against women in general.

The roles are changing but there is still much work to be done before those roles are between equals.
