In "The Pit and the Pendulum," the narrator's captors attempt to kill him in three distinct ways. First, they use a pendulum with a razor-sharp blade that swings slowly closer, threatening to slice him. Second, they try to force him into a pit filled with darkness, implying a terrifying death by falling. Finally, they set the walls of his cell to heat up and close in on him, intending to crush him between the fiery walls.

In "The Three-Century Woman," the narrator's mother does not explicitly tell the reporters that Great-Grandma is making up stories. Instead, she seems to be more cautious and respectful of Great-Grandma's experiences, acknowledging her unique perspective despite any skepticism. The mother’s attitude reflects a blend of admiration and concern for her Great-Grandma's tales, leaving room for interpretation about their truthfulness.
THC stays in your system for three to four weeks, depending on prior use. There is no viable way to clean it out any faster, as it is stored in your fat, not in your blood. All of the so-called cleaning methods are bogus, and potentially dangerous; and most of them will show up as an attempt to compromise the test, such attempt counting as a positive. The bottom line - if you don't want to test positive - don't do drugs. Sorry, but that is the truth.
In "The Great Escape," the three Americans use the potatoes to create a makeshift tunnel cover, disguising their escape efforts from the German guards. They carve the potatoes into a shape that resembles their own heads to place on their beds, creating the illusion that they are still in their bunks. Unfortunately, Piglet, one of the escapees, gets caught during the escape attempt and is subsequently executed by the Germans as a consequence of his capture.

The captors attempt to kill the narrator by enclosing him in a cell with walls that close inwards, by trapping him on the brink of a bottomless pit, and by utilizing a razor-sharp pendulum that slowly descends towards him in an attempt to slice him in half.

This pendulum, which is 2.24m in length, would have a period of 7.36 seconds on the moon.
there are three, height, weight, and length
Three ways to modify a pendulum include: * Change the length * Change the size of the end-weight * Change the weight of the end-weight

An Ellicott pendulum is a temperature compensated clock pendulum. The metal rod of a pendulum changes its length with temperature. The consequence is, that a colder pendulum swings faster (the rod is shorter) and a warm pendulum swings slower (longer rod). The Ellicott pendulum compensates this temperature error of the pendulum. It consists of a steele rod and two brass rods, wich are connectet in one point above the pendulum bob. Brass has a higher temperature coefficient than steele. On the free end of the three rods, a special lever mechanism, controlled by the lenght difference of the rods, lifts the pendulum bob up, when the length of the rods grows. The bob stays at its position and the period of the pendulum is without temperature influence. See also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ellicott_pendulum.png
Focault's Pendulum refers to a large pendulum which is used to demonstrate or measure the rotation of the Earth. Cleopatra's Needle can refer to any of three ancient Egyptian obelisks which were transported to London, Paris and New York and re-erected as monuments.
A pendulum consists of a weight or mass attached to a rod or string that pivots at a fixed point. It swings back and forth under the influence of gravity, following an arc. The key components are the bob (weight), suspension (rod or string), and pivot point.
Three examples of objects in motion that exhibit kinetic energy are a moving car, a swinging pendulum, and a flying airplane.
