Margaret Hamilton [December 9, 1902-May 16, 1985] was an advocate for animal rights, a schoolteacher, and a single mother. Hamilton was a member of Friends of Animals, for the rights of stray cats and dogs, and for wildlife. She supported the work of the Humane Society, and became involved in a series of public service announcements on the Society's behalf in the 1970s. As a teacher, Hamilton worked with a wide range of ages and audiences. For example, she taught future actors James Gilmore ka Jim Backus [February 25, 1913-July 3, 1989], who was most recently best known for his role on the TV sitcom Gilligan's Island; and William Windom [b. September 28, 1923], who can still be seen on reruns of the TV mystery series Murder, She Wrote. She taught kindergarten in Rye, New York. And she was a member of the Beverly Hills Board of Education, 1948-1951; and a Sunday School teacher in the 1950s. Hamilton married Paul Boynton Meserve on June 13, 1931. The couple had one child, Hamilton Wadsworth Meserve [b. 1935]. With the couple's divorce in 1938, Hamilton raised their son on her own.

While she pursued her acting career in California, she was a member of the Beverly Hills Board of Education. So during her lifetime, she maintained residences in New York City, at Gramercy Park; and in California. She died in Salisbury, Connecticut. She was cremated at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, and her ashes scattered in Armeria, New York. More than half a century after the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz', in 1995, Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954] wrote and published 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'. Under the influence of Stephen Lawrence Schwartz [b. March 6, 1948], the book became the play 'Wicked', of national and international renown. Schwartz was true to Maguire's book in some regards, but had things changed in others. But one of the points on which the genius of literature and the genius of theater came together and wouldn't budge was the tribute to Hamilton that Maguire had given in his original book. Hamilton was an early advocate of animal well-being. And under Maguire's original creative touch and Schwartz's creative transformation, the premier characteristic of Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, became her passionate concern over animals.

Well, i always audition for my school's plays and if/when you get a part, you need to be confident (if you're the lead) and you need to be determined. Play rehearsals and practices can be tiring and stressful so you must be really commited to acting. Acting is interesting because, well, you can get most of the things you want. (If you're a REALLY good actor.) Also, if you think you're a really good actor/actress, sign up for school productions and get used to acting. Maybe someday you'll be on the big-screen. :3
