No. Margaret Hamilton [December 9, 1902-May 16, 1985] was born and educated in Ohio. She became a teacher at the Rye Country Day School in New York. While she pursued her acting career in California, she was a member of the Beverly Hills Board of Education. So during her lifetime, she maintained residences in New York City, at Gramercy Park; and in California. She died in Salisbury, Connecticut. She was cremated at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, and her ashes scattered in Armeria, New York. More than half a century after the beloved 1939 film version of 'The Wizard of Oz', in 1995, Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954] wrote and published 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'. Under the influence of Stephen Lawrence Schwartz [b. March 6, 1948], the book became the play 'Wicked', of national and international renown. Schwartz was true to Maguire's book in some regards, but had things changed in others. But one of the points on which the genius of literature and the genius of theater came together and wouldn't budge was the tribute to Hamilton that Maguire had given in his original book.
