∙ 11y agoIn order to effectively answer this question, I need more information; such as, which type of entertainment? I surmise that animation used in commercials is to convey a sense of humour; as well as, a sense of feel-good childhood memories. This serves to better keep the memory of the product in your head. Animation (In part and not always) when used in movies, serves to create the image that something is happening that cannot really be achieved; hence, CGI. The recent remake of "The 3 Stooges" is a really good example. Alas, there are too many uses to list here. Good luck.
