It isn't there. It's just put there to end the anime series. The actual series ends much differently but so where did Tohru-san stand up to Akito-san like that. The only place that is like that in the manga is when Tohru-san talks to Akito-san in the woods and ends up falling down the cliff. That is the only thing close to their confrontation of Tohru-san being, how to put this but, sympathetic to Akito-san. The place where they became friends is when Tohru-san is in the hospital and Momiji-kun tells Akito-san to visit and told her (yes her) the story about the 'foolish' traveler who gave away everything he had and wished the people happiness.

He says he loves her (but not to her face, just in his thoughts) when they're at the beach, and Tohru's in the sand building a sand castle, and Kyo just got back from seeing Akito, who he had a little fight with, and when he sees Tohru, he's thinking "I love her" and stuff like that. Then in one of the later volumes, I forget which, it was a while ago when I read it, he confronts his biological dad and says theres someone he wants to be with. I think that was volume 22 maybe? Or 21...I can't remember, but he does it at somepoint. Maybe it was before then, not sure. But he finally tells her to her face in volume 22.

Why was Baskets cancelled?
It wasn't exactly canceled. They just wanted to end the series that way. They change it up though. For instance, what happens in the last episode, is what happens in the beginning of the 6th manga. Which, the anime changed up. The charachters you meet in the 8th manga, were put before the end of the anime. But you really should read the mangas. They also changed up the anime, like Akito is really a woman and she reveals that in the end of the manga. Where in the anime he is a man, and was to die young. Lots of other stuff too, but you should read the manga. (by the way, Tohru's eyes should really be brown)^they wanted u to think who liks who haha (Kyo+tohru or Yuki+tohru)
