There were several Hercules strips, books and TV Cartoons. Most took considerable liberties with Greek Mythology. The non-Disney Hercules centered on a strange family of sorts, Hercules, his female consort- Hera, who seemed to traipse about in a form of Empire Gown, and their apparent child- a centaur named , of all things, Newton who was about the size of a large dog and had tufts like a CockerSpaniel.

He could and did talk, and had echolalia ( echo speech) and a very high voice almost like a girl. He served as a sidekick to Strongman Herk. The Greek Centaurs were half human and half horse, but Newton was about the size of a large dog or a calf.

He was a prime attraction! Like a Greek Chorus Boy- he would flit about at the beginning and end of a broadcast and announce (Stay tuned for the next thrilling adventure of Hercules! or similar comment. It did not last long but as, to say the least, unusual.

How Hercules met Newton was never explained .

Are Richard Castle's books the same stories as the television series Castle?

No. They're the books that Richard Castle, in the TV show, writes while doing his ride-along with the NYPD. You could say that the books were inspired by what happens on the show. There are a lot of similarities between the characters in the books and the characters in the show, they're pretty much based on them, but the murders they're investigating are different.
