The Estate-General was organised in a way which allowed aristocratic and church dominance over the Commoners (i.e. the third Estate.)

The first and second estates enjoyed certain privileges while the first estate had none. The third estate was very poor and had to farm for the nobility. Lots of taxes were payed by them.
