Elphaba Thropp is the Wicked Witch of the West, although in the beginning of the musical we see she is just a normal girl attending college for the first time... apart from the fact that she is green. She is the sister of Nessarose Thropp, her crippled younger sibling, and the daughter of Frexpar Thropp, the governor of Munchkinland. When dropping the girls off at Shiz University, he gives Nessa (Nessarose) a pair of silver jeweled slippers which become the notorious ruby slippers.
