The Chippewa native Americans hunted for their food mainly with bows and arrows. There were female and male roles both just as important. Women maintained the fields while men hunted. The three sisters (Squash, Pumpkin, and Corn) were all planted together for the best possible harvest.

The Woodland Chippewa's were mostly farming people. They harvested wild rice and corn, fished, hunted small game, and gathered nuts and fruit. The Plains Chippewa's were big-game hunters, and buffalo meat made up most of their diet.
