In "Freak the Mighty," Killer Kane compares cops to bugs to express his disdain for authority and the law. He sees them as insignificant and annoying, much like insects that intrude on his life. This analogy reflects his rebellious nature and his belief that he can outsmart or evade those who try to control him. It underscores his contempt for societal rules and the consequences of his actions.

The main conflict in freak the mighty is that Max feels as if he is nothing. He is being chased by the "Blade" and the gang who obviously hates him and Freak. Max's grandparents don't really except him for who he is and what he looks like. Also, Max's Father Kenny Kane is a convicted murderer and is imprisoned; therefore everyone in Max's school is afraid of max and his family. Especially, Max's size feels like a threat to kids in school. That's basically all the conflicts in Max's life so if you put that all together, the main conflict in hatred because everyone hates Max.

The idea for 'Freak The Mighty' was inspired by the personality of a real boy. Like Kevin he suffered from a disease that made him very short. Like Kevin he had a big friend who sometimes carried him around. And like Kevin the real boy was highly intelligent, and interested in both language and science. His mother, like The Fair Gwen, was and is quite beautiful. There the similarity ends - the plot of the story is pure fiction. --Rodman Philbrick
