If you mean old school horror then that would probably be Edgar Allen Poe. If you mean modern writers then that would more likely be Stephen King. I would also consider Clive Barker to be one of the modern masters of horror, and H.P. Lovecraft to be one of the masters of old school horror.
Each season has a different storyline with different characters (but same actors) I guess by 'American Horror Story' you mean Season 1 (murder house) so yes, the seasons are completely different 💜
The Exorcist is probably one of the truest horror films in recent decades. When I say 'truest', I mean it honestly scared people. Not that it was factual. The one true thing horror films of any decade can hope to accomplish is to provoke fear and raw emotion in their audience.
