"Cut" refers to "ending one video clip and starting a new one." You cut a video clip if it's to long to help keep a steady flow over the whole film.

For example, action films and Music Videos have very fast cuts. Each video clip only appears on screen for a few seconds, while slower-paced films have longer cuts.
