After the universe was created, it exploded and out shot dust and gas, etc. When suns and planets began to form, solar systems were created and galaxies too. These all continue expanding and are still expanding. So in actuality, the sun is not being held in place. It is slowly expanding out from whichever point the universe began. It is a very long process so we don't notice it, but the suns gravity holds the planets in orbit while it continues to move so it doesn't seem to move.
