The Outsiders is About a Boy named Ponyboy Curtis and his gang. They are the greasers and they live on the east side of town on the "wrong side of the tracks." The Socs are the rich kids that live on the other side and they hate each other. The greasers are the poor kids with long greasy hair. When one of the greasers dies they get in a fight and it gets rough. At the end of the movie a greaser named Dally dies as well and Ponyboy has to cope with the loss. This is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Ponyboy is a kid from the wrong side of the tracks (a greaser) who's parents were killed in a car accident. He, his friends, Johnny, Dally, Two-Bit, and Steve, and brothers, Darry and Soda, are always getting beaten up by a gang called the socs. One night, he and his nervous best friend Johnny, are attacked by socs. The socs almost drown Ponyboy, and Johnny, defending Ponyboy, stabs bob, one of the socs to death. Their aggressive, troubled friend Dally, gives them money and a gun loaded, and tells them to hide in an abandoned church on Jay mountain. Pony, and Johnny find the church, and set up camp. Johnny, cuts and bleaches Ponyboy's hair, and cuts his own. Dally comes to the church, and takes Pony and Johnny to get some food. He tells them that a big fight is schedueled for tomorrow, and that Bob's (member of the socs) girlfriend, Cherry, is going to testify that Bob asked for it, since he was drunk, and that the murder was self-defense. They return to the church, and see it's on fire. A bunch of little kids are trapped inside, and Pony, Johnny, and Dally save them. Ponyboy gets out ok, Dally burns his arm, but a huge piece of wood falls on Johnny, breaking his back, and burning him badly. Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally are declared heroes, but a juvenile trial is scheduled for Johnny and Ponyboy. Pony is reunited with his brothers, Darry, and Soda. With the fight near, Ponyboy visits Dally, and dying Johnny in the hospital, and Dally decalres that they beat the socs for Johnny. The Greasers and Socs fight each other, and the socs lose. The Greasers go and see Johnny to tell him the news. Johnny tells Ponyboy to "stay strong," and then dies. Dally, unable to live with the fact that Johnny is dead, flips out, and robs a store. He is Chased to the vacant lot by the cops. Pony and the guys arrive, only to see Dally get gunned down by the cops. The guys get over Johnny and Dally's deaths, and try to become more friendly with the socs. Ponyboy finds a letter that Johnny wrote for him before he died.

First, the socs (the rich kids who beat up greasers) follow Ponyboy Curtis from the movies to his neighborhood. They jump him and cut his throat with a knife. His older brother Darry (who is big and builds houses. He has a sturdy build and has ice blue eyes. He takes care of Ponyboy and Sodapop {the middle brother who is gorgeous and works at a gas station. He wants to marry Sandy and his best friend is Steve Randle} since their parents died in a car accident.) along with Dally Winston (a New York gang member who has lived on the rough side of life), Steve Randle (Soda's best bud), Two-bit Matthews ( the wise cracker of the bunch), and Johnny( who is a boy who gets beat up by his parents and a couple months before the book started, got jumped by the Socs and got the worst beating of his life.) saved Ponyboy. The next night, Dally, Johnny and Pony go to the movies where they pick up two soc girls. The girls boyfriends are looking for them, but Two-bit comes up with a switch blade and the socs leave (with the girls, Cherry and Marcia) (P.S.-Pony has a crush on Cherry) That night, Johnny and Pony fall asleep in the lot, when Pony returns home, Darry hits him out of anger (and concern for him not being back by the curfew, because it was 2 in the morning when Pony got back) Pony and Johnny run to the park and there the Socs attack. They beat Johnny up pretty badly and left him lying there. Pony was being drowned in the fountain by all the other socs (including Cherry and Marcia's boyfriends) Johnny pulls out a knife and killed Cherry's boyfriend. The two greasers run t Dally for help. He gives Johnny and Pony 50$ and a pistol. They hop a train to Windrixville and stay in an abandoned church on top of Jay's mtn. In the end the church burned down with children in them. Dally, Pony, and Johnny save them. Dally's hand is broken, Johnny is badly burned and Pony is knocked out. Later, Two- bit and Pony visit Johnny and Dally in the hospital. Dally is funny as usual but Johnny is not doing so well. Later that night, there is a rumble (a big fight) between the greasers and socs, greasers win. Dally and Pony go to the hospital and visit Johnny before he dies. (Johnny's parting words are: Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold.) Dally goes crazy (becasue he loved Johnny so much) and robs a store. He gets shot twice in the leg but keeps running. he calls Darry and asks him to hide him. They agreed to meet in the park. The police catch up to Dally, Dally pulls put his unloaded heater. The police( thinking the gun is loaded) shoot him until he dies. The story ends with Ponyboy reading a letter from Johnny about staying gold.

In the book: Ponyboy is walking home from the movies. He was paranoid because it wasn't safe to walk home alone in the streets. While walking, he got jumped by the Socs.

In the movie: Ponyboy and Johnny meet up with Dally. Then they sneak in to a drive-in and meet Cherry and Marcia, some Socials.
