After independence, the Thyssville rebellion began to spread quickly. Lumumba and President Kasa-Vudu deposed each other from their functions which resulted in the arrest of Lumumba and he was executed in 1961. This further triggered a number of rebellions and the condition stabilized by 1964-65 after the intervention of United Nations to maintain peace.
