Shiva Lingam is the meditative state of Lord Shiva. If you happen to see the sitting posture of Lord Ayyapa (third son of Lord Shiva), you can see the posture.
Shiva is the god of destruction.
He
No, he is only the god of destruction. He is the head of all gods. No one can continue the circulation of life without his permission. Death is also as important as birth. Edit: Shiva is also the destroyer of sukshma sarira i.e. subtle body, destroyer of ignorance, Shiva krupa means Guru Gurupa. Without the grace of Shiva, one cannot excel in spirituality. Shiva means auspiciousness. Shiva represents an ideal householder, greatest yogi, an ideal and great ascetic. Shiva represents Jnana and so has no birth. The form of Shiva as shankara is the most near to convey atma tatva. Shiva is both with for and formless and unlike Vishnu he resides very near or on earth in mansarovar. Vishnudev and brahmadev are also important in sustaining or running the world. All 3 are necessary for the balance.
Harappa generally means Shiva. It also gets the meaning as "Hara" - Vishnu and "Appa" - Shiva. This is actually the exact meaning of Harappa. The people who named the place named it after their god which resembles lord Shiva.

The phrase “lingam massage” has entered the public eye as a type of genital massage with Hindu influences, it doesn’t literally translate to the male reproductive organ. Lingam is actually a representation of the Hindu god Shiva, which happens to be phallic in shape. You can understand why it has come to mean penis to so many people. However, some Hindu practitioners still strongly associate the concept with Shiva. To them, using the word as part of the phrase “lingam massage” might seem offensive because it reduces the meaning.
A lingam is a noun defined as a phallic object that is or was worshiped as a symbol of Shiva or a symbol of divine generative energy. Some of this worship primarily still takes place in the country of India.
In Hinduism, a cracked shiva lingam is generally considered inauspicious and might require special rituals to restore its sanctity, depending on the extent of the damage. Some believe that it could bring negative energies or disrupt the flow of positive energy in the space where it is installed. It is recommended to consult a priest or knowledgeable person for guidance on how to address this situation appropriately.
Lingam Suryanarayana was born in 1923.
The opposite of lingam (phallus, penis) would be yoni(vagina).
Hindu God Shiva is known as the Destroyer. He is one of the trinity and has several names including Mahesh, Mahadev and BholaNath. In another form, he is also known as the creator. he is worshipped as a 'Lingam', phallus.
Images/idols resembling Hindu God Shiva, Shiva lingam and yoga positions type images (again Hindu relted) have been found in Indus Valley Civilization which is believed to be 2500bc or earlier. read more about the civilization to understand earlier religons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indus_Valley_Civilization
Lal Quila, was originally built by Vikramaditya The 3rd. A Hindu Emperor who ruled Indraprastha (Now Delhi) I was a Shiv Mandira then, and was built to commomarate a iron shiv lingam. The lingam was rusted and thus had red colour and killa or qilla is for lingam. so was the name derived. Red lingam. The present Lal Qila or the fortress was built by shahjahan after the Temple was destroyed by the invading Muslims. The rocks etc used belong to the original temple. You can still find the Trishul of lord Shiva on the pinnacle of the building. This research was done by his holiness Shree Shree 1008 Daddah Ji Maharaj, but his work was destroyed by the so called secular Govt. of India and he is missing since then!
Of course! God is not discriminatory to males and females. If women are worried that the ling is a phallus and hence must not be touched, then they must also remember that the base of the lingam is the yoni or vulva--the shivlinga is essentially the cosmic union of the male and female energy that brings about the creation of the universe. Just keep a pure heart and pray with devotion--Shiva will bless you.
