After that you would have a small portion of cheese if you wanted so, and a yaourt or other dessert, like a piece of pie or a fruit.

It is usual for students to have at least an hour for their lunch break. In fact most schools have a break one hour and a half, or 1H45, allowing pupils living nearby to commute home, take their lunch, and come back for the afternoon. Schoolchildren can also take their lunch at the school canteen.
The French tend to sit for their meals. Breakfast is the lightest meal of the day in France, and the quickest with about 10 for 15 minutes. Lunch and diner are eaten in 30 to 50 minutes depending of what you are doing (at home, at the canteen at work, etc..)
In most, even nearly all French schools, you can have a lunch. It is not free, but rather cheap - about the price you would pay for a basic sandwich. If you prefer to commute regularly home to have lunch, this is usually possible but parents have to opt for that at the beginning of the school year.
Most French families eat their dinner together (and their breakfast, and their lunch) sitting at the kitchen table.
