There is an equinox in March and September. They are the time of the year when the tilt of the earth does not put either the northern or Southern Hemisphere tilted towards the sun. The Autumn equinox is the one that occurs in September.
It is one of the two times of year that the sun is over the equator. It happens around September 21/22 each year. Daylight and darkness are approximately equal.
The Sun is directly over the equator on both the Vernal and Autumnal equinoxes. The Autumnal equinox is usually on the 21st or 22nd of September but can occur as late as the 23rd. On both equinoxes however all of the countries along the equator will have the sun pass directly overhead. It will rise due East, be directly overhead at noon and set due West.
The Autumnal equinox. It comes on September 22nd.
Two equinoxes (from the word 'equal') occur each year: one in the Spring, called the vernal equinox from a word for green-ness, and also the autumnal equinox in the Fall. On the day and hour of the equinoxes, days and nights are the same length of time.
The equinoxes are the days when the days and nights are equal. I.e. day=12 hours long, night=12 hours long. The vernal equinox is in spring and the autumnal equinox is obviously in autumn. They are sometimes said to be the start of summer and winter respectively.
September 22
At the Equinoxes, the Sun is directly above the equator.
They begin at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes
The vernal and autumnal equinoxes, respectively.
For a vernal equinox, it occurs is March 20th. For an autumnal equinox, it occurs September 22nd.
The equinox is either vernal (spring) or autumnal. It can't be both. But spring in the northern hemisphere is autumn in the southern.
The Equinoxes - Autumnal and Vernal (or Spring). The hours of daylight equal the hours of darkness.
At any of the equinoxes, both the day and the night have about 12 hours each, almost anywhere on Earth.
Equinox is the time of year when the day and night are equal, which occurs in March and September. They are known as the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes.
Autumn. It is regarded by some as the start of Autumn. There are different perspectives on when exactly Autumn starts, but for some it is the Autumnal equinox.
At the moments when spring and autumn begin, the sun is directly over the equator.
There are two equinoxes (i.e. vernal/spring and autumnal/fall) every year.
An equinox occurs when the length of the day is equal to the length of the night. Here on Earth, it occurs around March 21 (the Vernal Equinox) and September 21 (the Autumnal Equinox).
