Do you mean the difference between classical music and film music?

Classical Music was composed in the period from 1550 to 1900 (more or less).

Film music came into existence in the late 1800's/early 1900's.

Film music often borrows elements from classical music, but from other music forms as well (for example jazz, and rock).

Both music forms have also much in common. When you put on a dvd, turn off the sound from the tv, and put on a classical piece of music at the same time, the classical music can often compliment the movie you're watching!
