Latch are just like inputs which are used to set or reset the output for a given combination.
It is a group of 8 buffers. The upper byte of 16 bit address is stored in this latch and then it is made available to the peripheral devices.

The lookup table in a microprocessor is a system that helps replace the runtime computations. It replaces them with an easier index operation.
The Microprocessor.
An electronic latch is a simple bi-stable state-holding circuit. That means it has two stable "states", kind of like a light switch (ON and OFF). Once the latch is switched ON, it will stay there until it is switched OFF or until power is lost, and vice-versa. Latches can be built in a variety of ways, but the most commonly studied latch is the S-R latch made with NAND or NOR gates. In this latch, "SET" is the name of one state, and "RESET" is the other state: http://www.play-hookey.com/digital/rs_nand_latch.html Latches can be used to build memory circuits in digital systems. There are millions of latch circuits in a computer system.

microprocessor 8085 is basic 8 bit microprocessor by Intel Corp. it has 64Kb memory and 16 address buses and 8 data buses it has 40 pin ic. 8 address and 8 data buses are multiplexed with each other for reducing the total number of pins from the microprocessor 8085 . it require 5MHz clock frequency for operation. only a crystal which connected easily across two pins of microprocessor can provide this clock.
A latch is a type of flip-flop circuit that is used to store digital information in a microprocessor or other digital system. A latch is essentially a digital memory element that can hold a single bit of information (i.e. a "1" or "0"). Latches can be used to store data that needs to be held temporarily, such as the current state of a program, or to create a temporary buffer for data that is being moved between different parts of a system.
The 8085 microprocessor is used IC 74LS373 to latch the address of 8085. Basically latch is consists of 8 flip flops. Generally we used D-flip flops (Delay). The clock of these flip flops are connected together and available as a output pin called enable.Working : The address will appear on AD0 AD7 lines. The ALE will go high and forcingEnable = 1. This will make latch enable and ready to work. Before address disappears ALE = 0. This will make latch disable. AD0 - AD7 will now be used as data bus.Hence, AD0 - AD7 (low order) address bus of the 8085 microprocessor is multiplexed (time-shared) with the data bus. The buses need to be demultiplexed.
A transparent latch (or simply a latch) is a digital logic device that can store two stable states with a level sensitive control signal called enable/latch, when this control signal is in the enable state the latch device transparently passes its input signal to its output, when this control signal is in the latch state the latch device holds its output in the current state and ignores the input signal. This behavior is different from flip flops (e.g. D flip flop), which are usually clocked and often edge sensitive not level sensitive.
