Well, on paper, you must be at least 5 foot 8 and even then, in the modelling industry they call that short. If you're taller than that, you're much more likely to receive more bookings. Also, it depends on what type of modelling you want to do. For instance, in runway modelling they'd prefer you to be slim yet healthy, lean and extremely tall so that the variety of clothes they can pick and choose for you to model aren't as limited.

Well, I have heard that the aveage model height is 5' 9" or 5' 10". I know a girl who is a model and she is around 5' 10". Althought, some models are shorter, for example, Eva, from America's Next Top Model is only 5' 6" along with Kate Moss. Currently, agencies are looking for reasonably tall ( about 5' 8"- 5'11") with a proportianate body and a natural face. You don't actually have to have exotic and different looks to be a model. I heard from a modeling friend that they actually want people who look like they have no ethnic background ( no brazilian, african, asian, german, or anything), just plain american. Usually agencies like models that are women to be 5'9 to 5'11, (guys have to be taller than that.) But if you have an unique look are are a little bit shorter you could still work. Kate Moss is only 5'8 or 5'7 and she is a super model!
