The book Call of the Wild is about a house pet, Saint Bernard/Scottish Shepard mix, Buck. He is kidnapped from his home and sold as a sled dog during the Gold rush. He dominates as a sled dog, moving to the top of the food chain. He is sold as a mail carrier dog, worked harder than ever before, and then sold to rookies. These literally almost kill him, working the dogs to the bone until he is rescued by John Thorton, the first man he truly loves. John Thorton is killed by Indians, and Buck goes to the wild.
It is a story about a dog named Buck. He is stolen from his comfortable home by a gardener and is sold to pay off a gambling debt. He is beaten and taught to obey orders and when gold is discovered, he ends up being a sled dog in the Klondike, a very cold part of Canada. He sees incredible cruelty there, learns to fight other dogs, sleep in the cold and work hard. The dog team is turned over to a boss who forces the dogs to pull much heavier loads. The dogs are hungry and exhausted at the end of a run, and another boss saves Buck. Buck loves this man, even saves his life, but throughout the book he becomes more and more attracted by the call of the wilderness.
It just gives some background info about buck. He lives in a civilized world but gets stolen and taken to Alaska. He lives on Judge Miller's big farm in California. They steal him and put him in a crate on trains to alaska
