1985 is when Doc Brown invented the time machine. 1955 is when Marty blocks his parents from meeting. This is for the first Back To The Future.
In the second one, Marty visits 2015 and then has to go back to 1955 and 1985 both.
The third one has him travelling all the way back to 1885.
Not exactly sure which date you're talking about: when he leaves the present, when he arrives in the past, when he leaves the past, when he arrives back in the present...
Marty departs from and arrives back to the date October 26, 1985. He arrives in the past on November 5, 1955, and departs from the past on November 12, 1955.
