Native trees are more commonly found on nature reserves, while nonnative trees can be found in urban areas. A native tree is of a species that has always grown in a particular country, or region of a particular country. A non-native tree is a species that has been introduced to an area by man from Another Country or part of the world, but which is still able to grow in that climate. For example, the Yew tree is native to the British Isles- it's always grown there. But a tree such as the Norway Spruce, which is also to be found there, is not originally a British tree- it was brought over from Scandinavia by people within the last 200 years. Some trees which one thinks of as being traditional emblems of a nation, often turn out to have originally been non-native- the Oak tree is thought of as a traditional English tree, but it was actually introduced by the Romans!!
