Most Canadians are of European descent. The largest European groups are the English, French, Scots, Germans, Italians and Ukrainians. Other smaller groups include Poles, Norwegians, Portuguese, Welsh, Russians, Swedes, Hungarians and Greeks.

Amerindians constitute the indigenous people that were the largest group before European colonization. They are split into three groups, Inuit, Metis and "First Nations". The largest group of East Asians are the Chinese. They are the eighth-largest people of Canada. Koreans and Japanese are two other East Asian peoples that exist in large numbers in Canada.

There are many Jews, mostly of European (specifically, Ashkenazi), background.

There are some Blacks, but not many. A large number of African Canadians are of Caribbean descent (like Afro-Jamaicans).

There are many Candians with non-Canadian American ancestry, such as Canadians of Jamaican or American (United States) descent.
