Cetus is a sea monster in Greek mythology.
The nearest neutron star to us is called an unremarkable PSR J0108-1431. It is located about 424 light years from us in the constellation Cetus.
First, let's discuss a bit what the word zodiac actually means. It comes from a Greek phrase meaning "circle of animals" ("zodiac" is actually the "animals" part of that) and represents the constellations, half of which are named after animals (the others are people, mythological beasts, or objects) through which the Sun appears to pass over the course of a year. The twelve traditional "signs" (constellations) of the zodiac are:Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. However, astronomers call the path the Sun appears to trace in the sky the ecliptic. The ecliptic actually passes through a thirteenth constellation (using the modern definition of constellation, i.e. a particular defined patch of sky, not just an asterism, a pattern formed by bright stars). This constellation is Ophiucus. It also "just misses" a constellation called Cetus. Some people therefore consider Ophiucus and Cetus part of the zodiac as well, which kind of messes up the term, because Ophiucus represents a man and Cetus represents a sea monster, dropping the proportion of "animals" below one-half. If it helps any, Ophiucus is a man holding a snake (so it's partly an animal), and Cetus is usually called "the whale" today even though its name refers to a specific mythological sea monster which was not, in fact, a whale.
A circumpolar constellation is a constellation that never drops below the horizon of the viewer. The constellation Aquarius is not considered circumpolar but seasonal.
Pirates of the Caribbean II Clash of the Titans (stealing Cetus' role)
well to be honest with it was discovered because it is the second closest constellation next to mars. The first one is Scorpius. It was discovered by the gods dancing in a circle. How it was named was by the god Aquila (the eagle) who just wanted to kill small rodents.
The constellation of Cetus is traditionally described as depicting a whale.
Cetus is a constellation not a star
The constellation Cetus is visible during the month of November.
Cetus is a constellation in the northern sky. Its name refers to Cetus, a sea monster in Greek mythology, although it is often called 'the whale' today.
you tell me
Cetus is a constellation, not a single star. Stars in the constellation can be from 8.73 (nearest) to 13,000 (furthest) light years away.
Menkar (Alpha Ceti) is the alpha star in Cetus.
