The most recent monarch was His Majesty George VI, Emperor of India.

India is a republic with complete democracy.there is no such concept of monarchy in India in present times.though the desendents of monarchs are given their due respect, they lack any official recognition or authority and power.

some of them are also elected as politicians owing to their popularity among the local population.

India became a republic in 1947 and has a president and not a monarch.

the current President of the Republic of India is Pratibha Devisingh Patil (born December 19, 1934) . She is the 12th person and first woman to hold the office. She was sworn in as President of India on July 25, 2007, succeeding Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Prior to India's independence it was part of the British Empire (often referred to as 'the jewel in the crown') and as such had an emperor in the form of the reigning British monarch. The last emperor of India was King George VI.

There is technically none. India has a democratic government, the one elected by the people. Currently, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is running the government.

P.S. The government may change in the future. If you find the answer factually incorrect in future, please drop me a message.
