AnswerThe Magnificat (a.k.a. the Song of Mary) is a canticle that is frequently sung in Catholic Churches, and it is from the middle ages. The lyrics are taken directly from Luke 1:46-55.

Otherwise it is probably "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" from the 12th or 13th Century.

Actually that proves little.

For example, the Byrds had a hit single in the 1960s (CE/AD) with a song called Turn Turn Turn lifted almost directly from Ecclesiastes in the King James Bible. That doesn't mean I regard Turn Turn Turn as the oldest pop single.
