The Great wall of China

The Great wall of China can be distinguished from high orbit of the earth, but not from the moon (verified below see related links).

This is a common myth. There are NO man-made structures that can be seen from the moon!

The myth of being able to see the Great Wall from the moon originated in Richard Haliburton's book Second Book of Marvels in 1938. It stated that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from the moon. Note the date? It was long before man set foot on the moon. NASA states, "The Great Wall of China can barely be seen from the space shuttle, so it would not be possible to see it from the Moon with the naked eye.

What is the condition necessary for eclipse to occur?

a solor eclipse happens when the moon passes in front of the earth and son at a perfect angle and cast a shadow so every thing would be in total and upper most darkness unless you are far or not close to the eclipse sight.

Is an astronaut lighter on the moon?

Anyone on the moon has the same mass as he has anywhere else, but because the moon's gravity is only a small fraction of what earth gravity is, he will weigh less, and will feel like he is lighter. Remember that mass is "fixed" for a person or object, but "weight" can vary depending on the gravity in which the mass is placed. Your mass on earth and on the moon are the same. Your weight on the moon will be only a bit more than .16 times what it is on earth. A "rough" figure is that you weigh about 1/7th as much on the moon as on earth.

Why can you never see a lunar eclipse in a crescent or half-moon phase?

With the sun in front of the earth, the earth's shadow is out behind it.A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is behind the earth, and passes through earth's shadow. The moon is behind the earth ... in the neighborhood of the earth's shadow ... ONLY at the time of Full Moon.During the crescent and "half moon" phases, the moon is off to the side, far from the earth's shadow.

Is the umbra larger during a solar eclips or a lunar eclips?

The "umbra" is the darkest central shadow; the "penumbra" is the lighter partial shadow. Since the Earth is much larger than the Moon, the Earth's shadow is larger than the Moon's shadow. The "umbra" of the Moon is only about 300 miles across at a maximum when it hits the Earth, which is why a solar eclipse (which is the Moon's shadow on the Earth) covers such a small area. The Earth's umbra during a lunar eclipse (the Earth's shadow on the Moon) more than covers the entire Moon.
