Canada and the US are the closest trading partners and are neighbours. Canada rely's on the US and the US rely's on Canada on trading. Canada and the US tend to get along well, and Canada mostly follows the US into war; which is the reason why Canada is in Afghanistan right now. They have a similar culture but the US tends to be more egocentric. Canadians know a fair bit about the US, but most Americans know nothing about the US. Canadians could live in igloos and have pet polar bears for all they know. The US tends to be more condescending towards Canadians when in reality Canada is a much better country to live in and to visit.
A common language is obviously beneficial to any relationship. Many US laws and governance are based on the English system because the original colonists were English. At the time of Independence, the Constitution was produced to adjust those laws to make them more acceptable to the Colonists. At Runnymede, near London on the banks of the River Thames where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, there is a memorial placed there by the American Bar Association to commemorate this fact.
